We were recently involved in the GM Insignia launch at Potters Field in South London. (On behalf of Silent Associates International Ltd. (SAIL) and Clear!Blue Inc.)
Alongside SAIL we undertook detailed site surveys, including topographical and ground penetrating radar data due to the nature of the show and site conditions. We then produced comprehensive site layouts, utilising 3D software to ensure a perfect sightline to Tower Bridge.
As part of the event it was necessary to bring a 300T crane onto site. (one of only 6 in the world!). Special Projects was responsible for measuring the access road and required mathematics to guarantee the vehicle would be able to come on site. The moment of truth came at 3am one July morning, when the crane slipped onto site with only centimetres to spare.
SPS also provided the rigging and construction manpower for the main vehicle reveal. The vehicle was hoisted to 66m above the ground in a scenic ‘ORB’, (originally constructed in the US by Scenic technologies) whereupon it was released and appeared to freefall (6m per second) to the ground. The car was arrested at 1m and lowered gently to the ground. It was then driven onto stage by GM’s European CEO
